The Sterling
Municipal Light Department (SMLD) has always prided itself on being part
of the community and committed to its future. We appreciate our
customers and have worked conscientiously through 2009 to maintain energy
rates to minimize the financial burden on our community. As the rate
of job loss rises, with the net job loss occurring between September 2008
and April 2009, consumers are watchful of their savings. The SMLD
managed to absorb a sizable portion of the impact from the December 2008
Ice Storm, along with increasing transmission and renewable energy costs.
Due to the overwhelming response to our discount last year, the SMLD is
proud to announce we are able to offer further support by means of an
extended year-end, early payment discount of 20% for November 2009,
December 2009, January 2010 and February 2010. In order to receive
these discounts, you must be eligible. Your billing statement will
indicate your discount date if applicable. You must pay in full, at
the SMLD, by 3:30pm on (or before) your discount date.
Please contact SMLD
Customer Service at 978-422-8267 for more information. Thank you.

The SMLD is a progressive public power utility located 10 miles NNE of Worcester,
Massachusetts in the Town of Sterling. Our primary building was originally the
1883 Sterling High School. Presently we are in our hundredth year of business and
we have more than 3,700 residential, commercial, municipal and industrial
customers.
Our customers are fed power through approximately 160 miles of
distribution lines. The SMLD is a member of ISO New England and a wholesale aggregator of power
with power purchases from generation throughout New England and New York. Our power
supply consists of an extremely clean portfolio of separate power agreements with Baltic Mills
Hydro, Carbolon Cogeneration, Contoocook Hydro, Integrys Energy Services,
ISO NE Energy Market, MMWEC, Mechanicsville Hydro, Methuen Falls Hydro, Millstone III,
PASNY, Seabrook and Stony Brook combined cycle units. In
addition, starting in March 2010, Centennial Falls Hydro Electric Facility
and future renewable options are being reviewed for participation.
The
Sterling Municipal Light Department’s mission is to provide smooth, clean,
reliable power at a reasonable price while staying abreast of society’s
technological advances for the benefit of its customers.
