CONTROLLED SERVICE PANELS

2006

As a Sterling resident, you have the option of installing a controlled electrical service at your home. This controlled service is in addition to your existing electrical service. A licensed electrician of your choice is needed to install the controlled service, which includes: a meter box, service entrance cable, and a sub panel. SMLD will provide the communication box and disconnect relay for a cost, which will also need to be installed by your electrician. From a list that we provide, you choose the appliances that you want on this service. A few appliances included on this list are clothes driers, washing machines, dishwashers, electric hot water heaters, pool pumps and heaters, central AC and more. You will receive a discounted electrical rate on this controlled service. The more appliances you put on this service the more you will save. Services not recommended to be put on the controlled service panel are refrigerators, freezers or things that you need to have running all the time.

By taking advantage of this Controlled Service plan, you are allowing SMLD to shut these appliances off during our peak electrical usage hours of the day. This program helps the SMLD to manage Sterling's electric load and keeps Sterling resident's rates low, while giving a discount to participating customers.
