How do you know you won't dig into something?

                    "Digging into the ground can be dangerous!"

You can easily cut through underground power wires, telephone or cable television cables, natural gas lines, or water and sewer pipes.  To prevent this from happening, Federal and State Laws require excavators to notify the local utility companies before they start digging.
To make this easier, in New England you can call an organization called "DIG SAFE" that in turn notifies all of the utility companies concerned.  If these companies have underground lines in the area, they will come by and mark them with stakes.

Dig Safe is a system, funded by member companies, which allows excavators to notify the appropriate utilities with one telephone call for notification before digging, trenching, blasting, demolishing, boring, backfilling, grading, landscaping, or any earth moving operations.

This system was created to promote public safety, avoid costly damage to underground facilities and reduce cost and time notifications. Their Web site is located at:
