SMLD Installs AMI Meters
|
| On
Thursday, September 2, 2010 the Sterling Municipal Light Department
(SMLD) will continue installing meters for our Advanced Meter Interface
(AMI). These installations
will take place between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; weather
permitting.
Not every resident on each street will get an upgrade on these days!
On average and weather permitting, the SMLD upgrades about 48 meters a
day. You will receive a
letter days in advance of the meter install if you are scheduled for an
upgrade. If you do not
receive an upgrade on a scheduled day, the SMLD will return to your street
in approximately 30 days. This
schedule is maintained to allow for the proper checks and balances for a
smooth integration. Meter
installations are planned into 2011 and include the upgrade for every
residential meter.

SMLD's Voluntary Reduction Of
Electricity Usage
|
Pay SMLD Utility Bills On-line
|
|
Multiple times during the year when peak energy
usage is at the community’s highest, the SMLD calls upon its customer
base to ask them to reduce their electricity usage. “Why should I
reduce my usage?” you might ask. It is a voluntary step and every
little bit helps. If everyone attempts to cut down on their
consumption of electricity during peak energy usage times, then on the
whole the community can reduce its usage of electricity when our draw is
the highest.
This means that the SMLD may not have to purchase
electricity at this peak time therefore, the SMLD would not have to
increase its operating costs. In addition, the reduction in the
consumption of electricity reduces pollution and that is a win-win
solution.
The SMLD will inform its customers via its Web site
and the Sterling-Lancaster Community Television (SLCT) when the days and
times of peak energy usage will occur so that customers can proactively
choose to reduce their electricity usage. Your voluntary reduction
is much appreciated. If you have any questions, please contact SMLD
