The SMLD is a progressive public power utility located 10 miles NNE of Worcester,
Massachusetts in the Town of Sterling. Our primary building was originally the
1883 Sterling High School. Presently we are in our hundredth year of business and
we have more than 3,700 residential, commercial, municipal and industrial
customers.
Our customers are fed power through approximately 160 miles of
distribution lines. The SMLD is a member of ISO New England and a wholesale aggregator of power
with power purchases from generation throughout New England and New York. Our
power
supply consists of an extremely clean portfolio of separate power agreements with Baltic Mills
Hydro, Carbolon Cogeneration, Contoocook Hydro,MacQuarie Energy Services,
ISO NE Energy Market, MMWEC, Mechanicsville Hydro, Methuen Falls Hydro, Millstone III,
PASNY, Centennial Falls Hydro Electric Facility, Seabrook and Stony Brook combined cycle units.
The
Sterling Municipal Light Department’s mission is to provide smooth, clean,
reliable power at a reasonable price while staying abreast of society’s
technological advances for the benefit of its customers.
