SYSTEM UPGRADES AND IMPROVEMENTS

Quail Roost Drive and Still River Road

The SMLD will be starting a primary electrical upgrade on October 30, 2006 for Quail Roost Drive and Still River Road. The area to be affected first is Quail Roost Drive.  The work will continue until crews have reached the end of Still River Road.

It is only the primary electrical infrastructure upgrade that will be done by the SMLD at no cost to the customer.  These are the wires and conduits that are parallel with the street. We will dig one section between transformers at a time, install the conduit, back fill, and restore all landscapes and driveways that are crossed, and then we will proceed to the next section.  We are not planning on any outages during the digging process; but we will have a brief outage when we hook you up to the new primary.  We will make every attempt to notify you in advance.

If you wish to update your secondary electrical infrastructure (from transformer to connection on your house) and arrange to have that contained in conduit, then you must coordinate this with your electrician at your own cost.

These updates will provide reliable and serviceable power to these roads.  We appreciate your patience and look forward to updating this area.

RELIABLE, CONTINUOUS, SMOOTH POWER

At the SMLD, our Operations staff is a proactive team.  Planning for annual upgrades and improvements to our system allows us to bring you reliable, continuous, smooth power.  In fact, during 2005, your average availability of power was 99.979% out of 100%.  While this is a very “sterling” figure, we continue to strive for improvement especially as storms and power interruptions from the New England Power Grid can effect us.

Over the past year, there have been extensive upgrades and overhauls to the SMLD distribution system.  Each build was coordinated by our Operations and Engineering teams with the highest quality line construction and was built to specification by our experienced Line Crews.

Specifically, there were three major upgrades that were performed.  The feed from Route 12 along Gates Road to Campground Road was extensively upgraded. In addition to that, the entire Campground Association Area was completely revamped.  A new pole line was constructed to connect both sides of Campground Road. The whole line was upgraded all the way down Squareshire Road and Chace Hill Road. These new upgrades and renovations will go a long way to help improve overall system reliability and minimize the occurrences of outages throughout the SMLD distribution system.
