Sterling Municipal Light is proud to offer our customers a service aimed at protecting costly home appliances and electronics by protecting them at the service entrance from AC surges coming through power lines.  We've now made it easy for you to purchase a surge protector (made by TESCO) and have it installed under your home's electric meter.

Power surges can result from external causes such as lightning strikes.  Roughly 40% of power surges in homes come through power lines, while the remaining 60% originate from within the home itself.

Residential surge protectors extend the lifetime of sensitive electronics by protecting them against harmful power surges and over voltage problems caused by lightning, adverse weather conditions, or an accident where a utility pole is hit and lines fall to the ground.  TESCO's surge protectors protect the homeowner's equipment at the service entrance from any type of surge coming through the power lines.
