Berkshire Wind Project

The SMLD is part owner of the Berkshire Wind Project, which will consist of 10, 1.5-megawatt wind turbines expecting to be erected off of Brodie Mountain Road in Hancock, Massachusetts.

Presently, four wind turbines have been erected including foundations for three other turbines with their base sections completed.  Unfortunately, due to continual legal challenges, construction was shut down this fall.  All equipment has been placed in a storage area with a perimeter fence and is being monitored by local security personnel.  At this point, there is no electricity being generated until the final sub transmission circuit is completed and in addition, all of the erected turbines will follow GE’s technical guidelines and general periodic inspections for this winter’s storage which includes rotating drive-train components and operating gearbox oil pump and heaters, with portable generators.

Pictured above, looking northward on the access road you can see turbines one through four.
